Program Note
The concept of a voyage is not unknown to human kind. Whether the tales of Odysseus or the immigrants who arrived at Ellis Island, people have a deep connection to the grand stories of adventure and struggle found in the voyages of history. This piece for concert band uses the structrual idea of a voyage, the departure, the discovery, the struggle, and the return to dictate the form of the work. Each section derives a new sentiment from the continuation of the voyage. The piece ends with a musical message that even as we return home, we have changed and we reflect the lessons of the voyage that has brought us back to where we belong. ​
