Program Note: When you step off the ferry onto the island of Murano, the whole place seems to reflect light. The waters of the lagoon, the white stone walkways, and the shops filled with colored glass all wash the place in undulating light beams that catch your eye from all different angles. In this piece, I use the small differences in pitch and timbre that occur when multiple voices play a unison tone to create a sonic imitation of light reflecting off of an uneven surface. Combining this with the players placed separately around the space, the listener can experience the essence of the day spent on the island. Premiered February 2020 in Lloyd Ultan Recital Hall at the University of Minnesota, and studio recording by Neftaly Gonzalez, Trombone, Justin Schoenherr, Trombone, Sam Charlton, Trombone, Jacques Tousignant, Trombone.
